Admittedly, I don’t always enjoy doing it but meal prepping is such a time saver. Then, once it’s all done, I feel so good about it! Sort of like when you don’t want to workout but you do anyways. Doesn’t it feel great afterwards?
Since it’s a bi-weekly occurrence for me, I’ve devised a system to make meal prepping feel less time consuming. I’m more inclined to get it done if I do it this way.
The process is broken down into three daily responsibilities.
Day One: Plan (15 – 30 Minutes)
Think about what you want to eat then write out your ingredients. I find it helpful to rewrite the ingredients and list them by their location in the grocery store.
Day Two: Grocery Shopping and Washing (1 – 1 1/2 Hours)
Buy your groceries then wash all your fruits and vegetables.
Day Three: Cooking and Storage (Approx. 2 Hours)
This step is the most time consuming..obviously. But having your fruits and veggies pre-washed is quite helpful.
Here’s what I have prepared. It will last me about 5 days or so…
- Chopped Pineapple
- 4 Apples
- Bundle of Bananas
- 2 Kiwis
- Bag of Mandarin Oranges
- Vegetable Stir Fry (4 Containers)
- Coconut Yam Soup (4 Containers)
- Steamed Broccoli, Cauliflower & Peas (4 Containers. Found these in my freezer. SCORE)!
- 3 Avocados
FYI: I improvised making the coconut yam soup and it turned out DELICIOUS! I’ll have to put together a recipe and post it soon! SO….GOOD!
If you’re someone that meal preps, I’d love to hear about some of the tricks you’ve picked up along the way!
