Four Banana Ice Cream Flavors

It’s that time of the month again…PMS. And sticking to healthier eating habits while my body is craving all sorts of junk food, doesn’t make it any easier. Instead of ignoring my body, I’ve decided to try to find a balance between the two. Why not give into those cravings but still stick to my health journey?

This time around I was craving ice cream. Rather than going store bought, I experimented with different banana ice cream flavors with minimal and natural ingredients.

I explored four different banana ice cream flavors: Matcha, Peanut Butter, Chocolate and Maple Bacon.

Matcha:
2 Frozen Bananas
3 TBL Raw Honey
1 tsp Matcha
2 TBL Coconut Milk
1/8 tsp Vanilla Extract
Pinch of Sea Salt

In a small bowl, whisk together coconut milk, vanilla extract and matcha until paste like consistency forms. Add banana to food processor or blender and pulse until bananas break into smaller pieces. Next, add your matcha paste, raw honey and pinch of sea salt. Blend until smooth.

Peanut Butter:
2 Frozen Bananas
3 TBL Peanut Butter
2 TBL Raw Honey
1/8 tsp Vanilla Extract
Pinch of Sea Salt

Add all ingredients to food processor or blender. Blend until smooth.

Chocolate:
2 Frozen Bananas
1 1/2 TBL Cacao Powder
2 TBL Raw Honey
1/8 tsp Vanilla Extract
Pinch of Sea Salt

Add all ingredients to food processor or blender. Blend until smooth.

Maple Bacon:
2 Frozen Bananas
1/4 C Uncured Bacon, Chopped
2 TBL Maple Syrup
2 TBL Raw Honey
1/8 tsp Vanilla Extract
Pinch of Sea Salt

Cook uncured bacon and set aside. Add remaining ingredients plus a little bit of bacon grease to food processor or blender. Blend until smooth. Serve in bowl and top with bacon bits.

**Peel and chop bananas prior to freezing
**Your bananas should be ripe
**After blending, serve immediately for soft serve or freeze for a more firm texture

I feel as though these recipes could definitely use some work. For example, with the matcha and the chocolate, the banana flavor is still too overpowering. However, I really enjoyed experimenting and they absolutely satisfied my cravings. Next month, if I’m craving ice cream again, I’ll come back to these and make some adjustments to improve the flavors.

  1. I can’t believe how much work goes into these! I don’t know how you had the patience to do this while having a PMS-caliber craving and I’m curious if the work itself helped distract you from it. Either way, the plan was genius! Nice post.

    1. It’s funny you mention that because the work itself, prepping and testing out the recipes, didn’t distract me from all my hormonal imbalances. haha! I got frustrated from time to time. Will was a huge help! He was my cheerleader and coach all at the same time..throwing positives at me throughout the whole process as well as helping me in the kitchen.
